HOW TO develop your own TOP TEN "Must have" list
Job Assessment Excercise
List each and every job you have had in the past. Now list the top 3 things you loved and the top reason you left or thing you most disliked about the job.
Once you have a complete list, go back and find the common denominators or words or themes that repeat themselves and pick the top 8. Now look at the reasons you left the job and choose the top 2 or the ones that are repetitive. Now, turn that negative aspect into a postive and add them to your running list. For example: hated to be tied down then add freedom to your TOP TEN list.
Presto you should now have your top ten list...

Information Interview
Another approach to building your top ten list is to approach and interview people who are currently doing a job you would love to do.
Ask them for an Informational Interview.
Ask them questions like;
- How did you get started?
- What is the best thing about your job?
- What would you tell someone just starting out to look out for?
- What surprized you the most about your job?
- What do you like least about your job?
Once you have these answers you can slowly start to build your top ten list of MUST have job components for you.
EXAMPLES
One job I had I was requried to stay at my desk at all times - I literally would look down to see if a chain was actually tied onto my ankle - because I felt so caged in by the restriction - that negative aspect followed me from job to job until I identified it as one of my TOP TEN now I demand FREEDOM and TRAVEL in my career and presto just like that I got it!
