Career Transitions

MIND MAPPING

This step is always the first step we take together since it is crutical to answer these life defining questions.  We begin to get a snapshop of your life as it is today so we have a starting point.   This will also allow us to have a mutual understanding of your current situation and roadblocks.  This mind mapping technique is a skill you will learn you can take on your life long journey and use for any aspect of your life and will become a new problem solving tool you possess.

2  SKILLS ASSESSMENT

We need to understand what marketable skills you currently have and what skills we need to develop in order to attain our perfect job.

3  LIMITING PATTERNS

You have likely heard this before - patterns are behaviours or habits we create and keep to sometimes result in repeating the same mistakes over and over.  Often this technique is used in evaluating relationships, but is equally effective when reveiwing ones professional past.  This step requires you to list all current and previous jobs, highlight the top three likes and dislikes.  We then look into reasons we left the job and begin to uncover patterns.  Once your patterns are identified, we work to eliminate the destructive ones and have the positive ones continue.

4  PASSION & PURPOSE

This step is one of the most rewarding and sometimes most difficult to uncover.  This session is conducted through one on one discussions and guided imagary excercises.

5  WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Where you work and who you work with can be as important as what you do for a living.  This is the time where we dive into discovering your Perfect work environment and create a top ten list so when you are in an interview or creating a business you have a template to work from.

6  GOAL SETTING

Whether you set goals as part of your business or personal routine, setting goals is regarded by a successful person as a must.  Here we develop a unique style of setting goals that will work for you.  You end up with a individual and customized system we will develop together.

7  OVERCOMING OBSTACLES

No one escapes roadblocks and obstacles, so instead of trying to avoid or dwell on them, here we develop ways to overcome and surpass them so you can move on quicker and with more confidence.

MARKETING YOURSELF / YOUR IMAGE / REPUTATION

Whatever path you choose you will need to address how to Market yourself or your company.  If you are applying for a job or starting a business from scratch, marketing is key and together we develop methods, ideas and strategies to propel you to where you wish to go.  We will also spend time on communications, The Art of Listening and be given the opportunity to use The Executive 360 tool.

9  RELATIONSHIP BOUNDARIES

No matter what we try to do in life, the quality of our relationships can either propel us into towards our goals or move us further away.  This week is dedicated to examing our relationships and circle of influence.  Have you heard you are treated by others - the way you teach them to treat you?  You will learn to master the "Evaluating Your Audience" through our "Consider the Source" exercise.  Ultimately you will understand how to quickly identify Personality types and adjust your approach for easier relations and effortless negotiating.

10.  Celebrate

Achievement and celebrating success can often be overlooked, therefore, this celebratory session is to be spent how you desire.  Some prefer to delve into one of the above sessions in more detail and some choose to just plain celebrate - this final session is your call.

Self Assessment

  • Value Inventories
Value inventories measure how important different values are to you. Examples of these values, which play an important role in one's job satisfaction, include autonomy, prestige, security, interpersonal relations, helping others, flexible work schedule, outdoor work, leisure time, and high salary.

  • Interest Inventories
The questions in an interest inventory ask about your likes and dislikes regarding various activities. The premise of this self assessment tool is that people who share similar interests will also enjoy the same type of work. Examples of interests are reading, running, playing golf, and knitting.

  • Personality Inventories
A personality inventory looks at one's individual traits, motivational drives, needs, and attitudes. The most frequently used personality inventory is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI).

  • Skills Assessment
In addition to determining what you're good at, a skills assessment also helps you figure out what you enjoy doing. The skills you use in your career should combine both characteristics. You can use the results of the skills assessment to make some changes by acquiring the skills you need for a particular career.

Much of what I teach can be found in the book Breaking the Rules by Kurt Wright - here are the questions he encourages you to ask yourself when reaching any goal.

"What’s Right" Questions

What do I know is already right? (agenda setting question)

What is it that makes it right? (energy generating question)

What would be ideally right? (vision-building question)

What’s not yet quite right? (gap-defining question)

What resources can I find to make it right? (action-engaging question)
